2D Project Limelight

I am currently working on a 2D Snake game that shoots!. it has been a huge adjustment learning how to design on the x and y axis.

Capstone Project

This was the last project in school. I used everything I've learned to build a great experience for my playtesters. I added quests to the project which was very challenging but rewarding. The next phase was to design the quests to progress you through the level from start to finish.

This style game is different from what we worked on in school. We mostly touched on 3D concepts in college so I wanted to expand my knowledge and learn how to design on a fixed axis. Every blueprint I dealt with needed to have a "make vector" where you singled out the x axis. In Unreal Engine 5, we can use planar to restrict the axis. This has proven to be much easier.

In this video, I show how I was able to create a pick up that increases the fire rate of the gun. The pick up has public variables. This way I can increase or decrease the fire rate after it is collected.

In this video, I show how I created a pick up for my stamina. At the bottom of the screen, you will see the stamina under the "dash" mechanic. This is also a public variable giving the option to change how much stamina is given on pick up.

In this video, I show how I created a pick up to increase bullet spread and create a "shotgun" effect. It does not last long but you can see how the bullet spread changed and how three bullets come out each shot.

What I've done here is to show you the updates I've made to the boss damage and to pick-ups. I also go over the occluder. These designs are subject to change and just shows my recent design and development progess.

Another Project I'm working on

What I've done here is to show you how I've created a night map and the use of a flash light and "point lights" to highlight enemies, collectibles and projectiles.

I added a system where after the enemy is defeated, he drops an item. I made it so there is a 20% chance to drop any of the collectibles created. I used the random integer to make that happen. The item, after spawning, has a 4.5 second life span or it will disappear.

I learned a lot about systems design when building around player health and stamina. I built a health, stamin, and invincible potion. The invincible potion added 15 seconds of invincibility to the player. I was also able to make sure that with every action a small amount of stamina would deplete making the need for a stamina potion all the more important.
